I stopped at the Weston Art Gallery. We saw them installing the new exhibit last weekend.
"TODT is a collaborative of three artists who choose to remain anonymous. The word
"TODT" itself is both a brand name and a statement. "TODT" is an old German word
meaning "dead." TODT can also be pronounced "TOT" to suggest a small child, or like
"TOD" which means death in German. Regardless, we encounter in the name a kind of
alpha and omega: it is an art that involved both beginnings and endings. Existence on
this earth alone fills the repertoire of TODT's extraordinary imagery – and it includes
almost anything. NO aspect of reality is beyond their purview, however, it is a dark reality."
–James K. Kettlewell, "TODT, An Artist Collaborative
Exurbia is TODT's surreal and excessive distillation of technical culture. A terrarium
of "New Nature,"Exurbia processes an eco-Eden of hardened remains. Like an island
substance of charcoal and unctuous derivatives, our work renders a tectonic landscaping
between art and oil. The industrial inventory of materials and matter, of paint and rubber
and PVC, aerosois and expanding foam, of vinyl and glue, insulation board, silicone and
styrofoam forms, charcoal and gasoline – all the layers in its chemical of nature's lubricating
machine, to TODT, Exurbia is a new nature beyond nature that diminishes any difference.
